Matt McLarty’s recent Mashable article  “Why IT Departments Should Let Employees Use Their Own Devices” began by describing the benefits of consumer quality enterprise applications. Here are some of the reasons enterprise applications should provide a consumer-grade experience;

• Reduce time-consuming paper work by completing and submitting e-forms virtually anywhere
• Access an image, inspection codes, report and more while on the move
• Receive and manage appointments or workload and automatically report on progress
• Monitor and document remote worker compliance with internal organization policies
• Manage stock, materials and equipment remotely

Recently, caseworkers have been encountering dangerous situations while performing their daily routines.  In 2008, a caseworker was murdered while conducting a regular check-up on her client in West Virginia¹. Then again in 2011, a caseworker was attacked while making a home visit in Kansas City. Reportedly, the client choked and wrestled the caseworker, throwing her onto the ground. The caseworker was only able to escape to safety after she had grabbed a knife (that she found in the house), freed herself, and ran away². 

Caseworkers often deal with time-consuming processes that require them to manually re-type case notes at the end of their day. This can lead many caseworkers to fall behind in their paperwork and results in less time being spent with clients. Last year, this issue was thrust into the national spotlight when a caseworker in New York City was held responsible for the death of a 4-year old child.

Across the country, Agriculture Departments have a responsibility to the United States government and their constituents. Those responsibilities include compliance inspections and license processing. However, are these professionals performing their duties in the most productive and efficient ways?

Children and Family Service (CFS) agencies often encounter issues that require both great sensitivity and rapid responsiveness. The difficulty in balancing these two aspects has been amplified by the presence of a number of lawsuits (i.e. Georgia CPS, Kentucky CPS, and Michigan CPS). This trend, coupled with consolidation efforts, have increased the need for CFS agencies to increase accountability, increase the number of quality visits their workers complete, protect their employees, all while ensuring individualized care. The question is how to achieve these goals. Directors within CFS agencies have been faced with this question and have been searching for a solution.
